On the Athens – Egaleo bordeline / Στη συνοριακή γραμμή Αθήνας – Αιγάλεω

I have taken these photos literally on the borderline between the municipality of Athens and Egaleo, demarkated by Orfeos Street.

suitcase_flowers

The suitcase without its carrier is set by the fence with the flowers as background. It is a picture of loss, of absence, of emptiness seeking fuflfillment.

Structures that otherwise play a role in the functioning of everyday life are left in an empty space, where they become totally useless. Context is everything. The unfinished building in the background completes this picture of the unglorious end.

agannis2

Black and white, an umbrella that has lost its meaning. Things will never again be what they used to be.

window

Shades of grey.

ikaros2

The banner on the left says “Union of Garbage Collectors – The Icarus”. As if the site were the base of garbage collectors.

transformer

Grey again.

agannis1

There is no body inside the raincoat hung on the fence. The pedestrian crossing in no man’s land is ironic and meaningless.

Framing the grey sky.

orfeos1

This is Orfeus Street, usually chuck a block with trucks and commercial utility vehicles. Two trucks barely fit on this lane which is littered with garbage of all sorts.

terma

This is a bus stop. In Greece bus stops have names. The name here is “Terma”, meaning “The End of the Road”. It happens to be at a point where cars and trucks are gridlocked for a long time because there is not enough space to get through. PErfect point for a bus stop!
