Eyes Part I: Eye Eats Fish – Φατε Ματια Ψαρια και Κοιλια περιδρομος

I need to make a small break from the drama evolving in front of my very own eyes in Cappadoccia, by opening another cycle of articles whose topic is the eye.

The first part has to do with eyes eating fish, which is the result of not having enough money to buy the fish.

When this is the case, in Greece we use the expression:

“Φατε Ματια Ψαρια και Κοιλια περιδρομος”

Paul Klee: Eye for an I

which means something like:

“When the Eye eats the fish, you end up with your belly more than full”

The menu today has two of my favorite fish,  rock gurnard (kaponi in Greek) and scorpion fish (scorpaena scrofa).

Rock Gurnard (kaponi)

I like the whole fish, but today eye eats fish, fish is eye.

Next in line the powerful scorpion fish (scorpaena scrofa).

Scorpaena Scrofa

The eye, the eye!

I conclude this short escape to the world of the eye with the eyes of enfant terrible Georges Battaille.

PS. There are more eyes to explore. Until then, let this book cover keep you good company.
